Pitch

October 2013, Indian steel giant ArcelorMittal announces the permanent closure of the Liege steelworks, laying off thousands of workers. This is the story of those workers, whose lives were shaped by the rhythm of shift work, sometimes tearing families apart, but also forging deep solidarity and strong activist movements. It’s the story of hard labor amid noise, dust, smoke, the blazing heat of blast furnaces, and the freezing cold of winter. It’s the story of the slow dismantling of European steelmaking, sacrificed on the altar of profitability and globalization. A social history marked by major strikes and collective struggles. It’s the end of a two-century industrial epic that once brought prosperity to Wallonia and other European regions.
